Umrah

Learn how to perform umrah to ensure a seamless and spiritually fulfilling journey.
Umrah is a pilgrimage to Mecca that can be undertaken at any time of the year, unlike Hajj, which has specific dates. It consists of a series of rituals performed by Muslims to show their devotion to Allah.
The main rituals of Umrah include:
Ihram: Entering a state of spiritual purity and wearing special white garments.
Tawaf: Circumambulating the Kaaba seven times in a counterclockwise direction.
Sa'i: Walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah.
Halq or Taqsir: Shaving the head (for men) or cutting a small portion of hair (for women).
To enter the state of Ihram, you must:
Perform Ghusl (full-body purification) and don’t use any products holding perfumed smell like soap or fragrance.
Wear the prescribed Ihram garments (two white, unstitched sheets ONLY (No Undergarments) for men; modest clothing for women).
Make the intention (niyyah) for Umrah and recite the Talbiyah: 'Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik.'
Tawaf is the act of circumambulating the Kaaba seven times in a counterclockwise direction. Start at the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad), kiss it if possible or raise your hand towards it, and begin your circumambulation. Each round starts and ends at the Black Stone.
Sa'i is the act of walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah. Begin at Safa, make your way to Marwah, and repeat this seven times. The walk commemorates Hagar's search for water for her son Ishmael.
Halq is the complete shaving of the head, performed by men. Taqsir is the cutting of a small portion of hair, performed by both men and women. This ritual symbolizes the end of the Umrah and the release from the state of Ihram.
Yes, while in the state of Ihram, pilgrims must avoid:
Cutting hair or nails
Using scented products
Engaging in marital relations
Hunting or killing animals
Engaging in disputes or arguments
When preparing for Umrah, consider bringing:
Ihram garments
Comfortable walking shoes
Unscented toiletries
Personal hygiene items
Prayer mat
Small bag for carrying essentials
According to many Islamic scholars and laws of Saudi Arabia, women are required to be accompanied by a Mahram (a male relative such as a husband, father, brother, or son) to perform Umrah. However, recent changes in Saudi regulations may allow women to perform Umrah without a Mahram, but being a Muslim, we are performing this act of Umrah for Allah. Therefore, we must obey the Almighty's commands if we want to receive full reward, so it is advisable to be accompanied by a Mahram.
To prepare spiritually for Umrah:
Study the rituals and their significance
Increase your prayers and recitations of the Quran
Seek forgiveness and purify your intentions
Familiarize yourself with the duas (supplications) to be recited during Umrah
